Frequently asked questions
What qualifications does Dr Sorensen have? Dr Sorensen (Chiropractor) graduated in 2000 from RMIT University in Melbourne. He completed a 5 year full-time double degree course: a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science.
Before opening Flinders Park Family Chiropractic, he worked overseas in Denmark, Scotland and Northern Ireland. He decided to settle with his family in Adelaide in 2004 and opened his practice in Flinders Park in 2005.
What is an adjustment? Adjustments are gentle movements that are designed to improve function of the spine. The technique is uniquely modified for each patient to suit their size, weight and condition.
Is chiropractic safe? Here at Flinders Park Family Chiropractic we take your health and safety very seriously. Our first concern is to find out what is wrong and also to check for signs of any serious conditions which require treatment by other health professionals.
Chiropractic care is recognised as a safe and effective method of care for many conditions. There are, however, some risks involved with all health procedures. Feel free to discuss any concerns you might have with one of our chiropractors before being adjusted.
Do I need x-rays? Whether or not you will need x-rays depends upon a number of factors including your age, prior history of illness or trauma and examination findings. Chiropractors take x-rays for three major reasons:
What is the sound I hear during an adjustment? The popping sound you may hear indicates that the joint has separated slightly and released the normal fluids and gases in the joint. Adjustments do not always produce a sound.
Can I adjust myself? Doctors of chiropractic are not able to adjust themselves – they will go to and see their chiropractor to get adjusted. So we recommend that you don’t try it, either.
How long will it take? This all depends on the type of condition you present with, how severe it is and how long you have had it for. It will also depend on how you respond to the treatment and whether or not you follow your chiropractor’s advice. Every patient is different, which is why your chiropractor will discuss your individual requirements with you.
If you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
